Okay, Okay enough about the sewing machine, I promise.

Links to Learning Celebrates 10 years

Saturday January 23rd 2010 was a special day for a special learning program. This program assists children with their reading and grammar skills. From grade one and up.

My sister Joan started up this program in Belleville Ontario to assist those children in her community with their reading skills. It helps those children having difficulties with their reading and also helps other children to improve on their reading skills and grammar.

Several years ago Joan’s daughter Melanie started the “Reading Rocks” program. This program encourages children to read as many books as they can in a year. Each year a goal has been set and and each following year the goal number is increased. The goal for 2009 was 1000 books in one year!!!

To help with this celebration I was asked to make something that all the children could take home with them as an award for the “Reading Rocks” program and to celebrate “Links to Learning” first ten years.

My husband David suggested a small pillow that the children could use to rest their heads on as they read. Joan and Melanie really liked the idea so that is what we did.

David updated the logo to include the 10 year celebration and the Reading Rocks program.

Well we made 60 pillows in two days. With help from my husband and my girlfriend Dana the job was completed. We all had such fun doing it too.

Apparently the pillows were a hit, the children just loved them and the celebration on a whole was a huge success.

Celebrating our Relationship

Today my husband David and I are celebrating 20 years together. Although we will have been married
15 years this coming August we have actually been together for 20 years.
Relationship status is not necessarily the most important thing to us. The quality of our relationship and
the longevity of it is what matters to us.

When I think back over the years, all we have been through together, our joyful times and our times of struggle and tears shed I would never have wanted to share my life with anyone else. I would do it all over again if I was asked to! David quite simply is my heart.

Salvation Army Find

Hi everyone I just wanted to show you my Salvation Army awesome purchase I made yesterday.
I went to my local Salvation Army where I go quite often at least once a week to see what they have.
In fact between the Salvation Army and our other thrift store in town called Hidden Treasures, I'm sure
I have FREQUENT FLYER MILES!!!!

Well as I was looking around I picked up the first book of the Twilight series for 50 cents. I thought that was my great purchase for the day. Well it wasn't, I decided to walk around again just to see if I missed anything good and I looked down on the bottom shelf of the household items and I saw a sewing machine case. There was no name branding on the case so I pulled it out and opened it up. It was a Husqvarna, model # 1040. My lower jaw almost hit the floor. I asked the sales woman if it was working and she said it would have to as they do not put anything out like this without testing it and ensuring it is in good working order. Well the best part of the deal is I got it for $5.00 I couldn't believe it. It was marked $5.00 and I had to have it. I got it home, cleaned it up, and tested it. It works like a charm. It came with it's manual, assorted accessories including a ruffler, bobbins, and the extension table as well of course as the foot peddle and plug.

I just can't believe my good fortune. I am an avid sewer and I have a great old Bernina sewing machine that my friend gave me and a newer Kenmore as well as a serger but I'm not parting with this little gem  because I know I will use this one too!!!
